#1 Rule To Mother’s Day Gift Giving

The Number One Rule To Giving Mother’s Day Gifts

Don’t Look Thoughtless!

Whatever you do on Mother’s Day, you have to make sure that it doesn’t look thoughtless. This doesn’t have to be harder than it seems.

Most fathers do not “get” the logic by which they are expected to be involved in preparing for Mother’s Day for their wives. The “What are you talking about – you’re not my mother” comment routinely makes it to Internet lists of the most thoughtless things that mothers say they have ever experienced on Mother’s Day.

Mothers have great expectations of their children. Fortunately, mothers are easy to please. It takes very little to get a mother feeling that all her hopes and dreams have come to pass. For instance, mothers often look closely at their gifts for signs of thoughtlessness. If there is none in evidence, life feels right. If you want your Mother’s Day gift to go well, make sure you do not trip up in any of these ways.

  • A gift that is obviously cheap can hurt anyone’s feelings, and mothers don’t deserve that. Great expense is not called for, usually – just something that involves reasonable expense passes the test.
  • Make sure that you don’t get a wearable gift that is the wrong size. The wrong size can make a mother think of how her own children do not know her. Gifts that are the wrong size can make a gift look perfunctory and “phoned in”. This can hurt.
  • There are other things that can make a gift look perfunctory. If your mother already has the article that you’ve chosen to gift her, your gift can only show her that you’re out of touch. Watching out for duplication is important.
  • Homemade gifts are a curious thing. They can look very cute coming from a young child. Coming from a 20 something (or 30 something), though, they are sometimes seen to look out of place. Unless a handmade gift has artistic value, it can be seen as a strange middle ground between cheapness and thoughtfulness.
  • Make sure your choice of gift is something that is not universally used as a punchline on late-night standup routines – like money or store gift cards.
  • Don’t put off preparing a gift to the last minute – nothing screams thoughtless as effectively as a Mother’s Day gift that arrives late.

So you know now what kind of gift you should not give. This knowledge doesn’t automatically lead you to the right kind of gift, though.

A gift that has the unmistakable mark of thoughtfulness is the best way to go. Depending on her interest, it can vary.  However, with a personalized gift, whether it is a personalized blanket, beautiful handkerchief, personalized jewelry, made just for her, it will sure to be a hit.

For even more thoughtfulness, you could keep in touch with your mother all year to find out what kind of plans or needs she has. If she mentions at some point that she just can’t find shoes that fit, that could be your opening. A day out together shopping for several pairs of shoes that fit would be wonderful on Mother’s Day.  Does she mention she chilly sitting on the sofa reading her favorite book or watching her favorite show?  A personalized blanket made just for her would be perfect for her to warm up.  Not only would it be buying her something nice, a gift like this would also show her that you  listen and care.

A Mother’s Day She Won’t Forget

Make this Mother’s Day special. Whether you are celebrating your wife, mom, grandmother, or another magnificent mother that is an important part of your life, this is the year to show her she shines. Plan a day dedicated to the things she most enjoys. Most moms are super busy and want the simple things in life like breakfast in bed, a neck massage, or a keepsake gift that can be enjoyed forever. Above all, Mom will love that you are making time for her.

Mother’s Day Morning

Wake up early and cook breakfast, but don’t forget to clean up the kitchen. If cooking is not your forte, some toast and coffee on a platter with a single flower will mean just as much as a gourmet spread. If there are multiple moms in your life, make it a family brunch outing instead of breakfast at home.

Show your mom how much see means to you by giving her a

Later in the Day

After the breakfast festivities are done, take mom to do something she enjoys. You can ask her what she would like to do, or surprise her with an idea of your own. Some thoughts to get your mind headed in the right direction:

  • Schedule a massage and manicure as a relaxing treat
  • Take a couple hours out for biking or walking through a state park as a family
  • Hit the local nursery and let her pick her favorite flowering bush—plant it in the yard in honor of the supermom she is
  • Take her to the wine and paint session that will be a blast
  • Catch dinner and a show at your local movie theater

A Day Just For Mom

Sometimes mom is so busy taking care of everyone else that she doesn’t get to take time out for herself. Put together a gift basket with a new book, some bubble bath, and her favorite chocolates and a soft monogrammed blanket she can snuggle up with. A keepsake gift is something mom will treasure. Let her sleep in as long as she wants and then spend the rest of the day lounging. Take the kids outdoors while mom catches a nap, or enlist the kids in a quiet chore time game so you can have the dishes and laundry finished before she wakes up. While outings are nice, a day at home may be just what mom needs to recharge.

Any plans you make for Mother’s Day will be a delight.  And while breakfast in bed might mean syrupy fingers on the white pillowcases, this is what mom secretly loves about Mother’s Day—the pleasure of her loving family.

Why Monogrammed Wedding Blankets Make Spectacular Bridal Shower Gifts

Would an embroidered wedding blanket be a good idea….

If you have ever wandered aimlessly around a department store trying to decide between wine glasses and cheese tray, you know how difficult it can be to make a final decision on a bridal gift. Do you purchase something practical you know the soon-to-be-hitched bride can use or do you give a store gift card rather than make the wrong choice? One of the easiest ways to overcome your purchasing paranoia is to give a deeply romantic present that is sure to cause tears of joy. A monogrammed wedding blanket makes a spectacular bridal shower gift and will impress all in attendance.

A monogrammed wedding blanket can be personalized in a variety of ways. You can choose to have just the wedding date embroidered or you can opt to add the bridal couple’s initials too. You can even add decorative touches like intertwined wedding rings. If you want to give a personalized blanket just to the bride, opt for something special like her wedding date and wording like ‘today I marry my best friend’. No matter which embroidery option you choose, your present is likely to melt her heart with your thoughtfulness.

The Easter Bunny and Easter Eggs

One of the many traditions of the Christian holiday Easter are the Easter bunny and giving out chocolate or candy eggs. But what does one of the most important of the Christian celebrations, honoring the resurrection of Jesus Christ have to do with a rabbit and candy or boiled eggs? To answer this, you have to look at some of the religious and spiritual traditions which predate Christianity and how some of the Christian holidays came to take their place in the springtime calendar.

First, you must look at the dates surrounding Easter. In reading the New Testament, the exact dates of the crucifixion and resurrection aren’t very exact. However, both the celebration of Easter and the Jewish Passover, are closely tied in the calendar to the vernal equinox. Historically, there have been celebrations surrounding the vernal equinox and springtime since earliest recorded history. It has always been a time of feasting and celebrating the new season as well as fertility and giving birth.

In fact, the name Easter comes from the ancient Saxon goddess of springtime and offspring, Eastre. Since the ancient pagan rituals of spring and fertility fell at the same time as the new Christian observance of the resurrection of Christ, it became easier for priests to gain converts by incorporating some of the old with the new. In this way, the ancient rites and rituals became incorporated into the modern Christian holidays.

As a matter of fact, the origin of the Easter bunny comes directly from these ancient Saxon religions. The rabbit was the earthly symbol of the pagan goddess Eastre. As priests attempted to convert pagans to Christianity, it was easier to allow the Eastre Rabbit, or Easter Bunny to remain as a part of the celebration of this springtime ritual.

Along the same lines, the egg has been a pagan symbol of fertility since ancient times. Exchanging eggs as a celebration of springtime predates Christianity by centuries. Even the way the eggs are presented is nothing new. In the ancient celebrations that involved giving away eggs, if you were rich, you wrapped them in gold foil, if you were poor, you simply colored the eggs by boiling them with leaves or flowers that dyed the shell.

Once again, as this ancient celebration coincided with the Christian Easter, the tradition of giving eggs evolved as a part of the modern Easter holiday. Over the next century or so, the two traditions merged and the folklore of a giant bunny giving candy eggs to good children on the eve of Easter became a part of the holiday similarly to the custom of Santa Claus merged with the Christian Christmas celebration.
